Abstract:

This study aims to determine the strategic action by the Gulf-Kazakhstan oil and gas industry in the midst of recession. Also, this paper highlights their operational achievements on the downtrend. Data about the strategic plans were taken from industry publications and were validated through survey and in-depth interviews with the General Managers as well as the Human Resource Managers. The respondents (n=30) were met and with a return rate of 94 percent from the 15 Gulf-Kazakhstan oil and gas industry. The top managers were interviewed, two in each organization, to affirm data on the downturn, and their impression of coping using the guide of strategic actions. This qualitative research paper utilized case study method. The major strategic themes are content analyzed out of the clusters of responses from the research instruments. The key findings in coping with recession are as follows: international talent management pool, communication tools, market competitiveness, and human resource enhancement.
