Evaluation of some bioactive effect of Capsicum annuum L. juice against Klebsiella pneumonia isolated from different clinical samples

Author: BATOOL SHAKIR ABED ALMJALAWI, HUSSEIN SAEED AL-MAFRAGY
Abstract: Objective (s): Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the pathogens that is capable of producing many virulence factors and possessing high resistance to some antibiotics. The study aims to determine some biological activities of Capsicum annuum L juice against K. pneumoniae isolated from various clinical infections. Methods: 60 different clinical samples were collected that were isolated from persons with infection (urine, wounds, blood, and sputum), as well as investigating many virulence factors associated with diseases K. pneumoniae, and determining the resistance of this bacterium to some antibiotics in the study, and the qualitative detection of Effective groups of Capsicum annuum L. juice, determination of the Mminimum Inhibitory Concentration of Capsicum annuum L. juice, and study of inhibition activity of Capsicum annuum L. juice against the growth of K. pneumoniae and study of Cytotoxicity of an absence of capsicum juice. Results: The results of the Cultural and microscopic examination showed that 12(20%) of isolates were related to K. pneumoniae, meaning that the results of infection with K. pneumoniae were the highest percentage (23.08%) and the lowest incidence was blood samples (10%), many virulence factors associated with the pathogenicity of K. pneumoniae which are Capsule, Hemolysin, Urease, and Biofilm production, investigation of ß-Lactamase production. All isolates showed complete resistance to Ampicillin, and by 100%, the results of the qualitative detection showed that juice contained high percentages of active groups, but with varying proportions. The MIC value of Capsicum annuum L was 6.25 mg/ml for bacterial isolates related to K. pneumoniae, the results of the statistical analysis of the inhibition activity of Capsicum annuum L. juice against the growth of K. pneumoniae. The presence of significant differences at a probability level (p=0.05), whether between isolates for one concentration or between concentrations of one isolate, as well as the results of the Cytotoxicity study of absence Capsicum annuum L juice is of any cytotoxicity on human Erythrocytes. Conclusion: The researcher concludes from this that the anti-efficacy of Capsicum annuum L juice increases with the increase in its concentration, which is due to its containment of inhibitory active compounds that have a role in inhibiting the growth of bacteria, inducing the use of effective compounds isolated from natural sources and using them as an adjunct treatment to eliminate or reduce the growth of some pathogens, This is to reduce the side effects of the antibiotics used at present that have severe effects on the health of the patient's body.
