The Relationship Between Human Factors And Work Behavior Of Fishermen In Coastal Areas Of Indonesia

Author: PUTRI AYUNI ALAYYANNUR, SHINTIA YUNITA ARINI
Abstract: Indonesia has many coastal areas, three of which are coastal areas in Madura, Sidoarjo, and Tarakan. Residents who work as fishermen are at risk of work accidents. Work accidents and diseases can be minimized by the presence of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) among the informal sector workers. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between human factors and work behavior of fishermen in coastal areas. This study was observational and a cross-sectional which used a quantitative research approach. This study was carried out to fishermen groups in the coastal areas of Sidoarjo, Tarakan, and Bangkalan. The sampling method used was the snowball sampling technique from which obtained 56 samples. The variables in this study were individual commitment, knowledge of OHS, work stress, mental workload, and work behavior. The data analysis used was Spearman’s rank test. The results of this study reveal that knowledge of OHS is related to work behavior which is shown from p-value <0.05 (0.000). The relationship between knowledge of OHS and work behavior has a correlation coefficient of 0.466. Individual commitment, work stress, and mental workload are unrelated to work behavior because the p-values obtained for these variables were >0.05. From these results, the conclusion in this study is only knowledge of OHS that has a relationship with work behavior.
