Abstract: Stroke is one of the leading cause of death and disability in Thailand and around the world. KamphaengPhet Province has a trend of stroke patients which is increasing every year. Early perception of the emergence of symptoms of the patient will reduce the rate of disability and death due to stroke. Objective: To study the perception of stroke warning symptoms among at-risk stroke patients in KamphaengPhet. The sample consisted of 600 at-risk patients aged 35 years old and over in Wang Yang village,KhlongKhlung district,KamphaengPhet Province. According to the survey, there were 600 at-risk patients included in this study. There were 120 low-risk patients, 340 medium-risk patients, and 140 high-risk patients. Overall, 25% have been excellent on perceiving the stroke warning symptoms, 35% have moderate perception, and 45% have low perception of stroke warning symptoms. The least perceived emergency stroke symptom was dizziness (60%), followed by blurred vision (55%), palpitations (30%), and headache (15%).Previously, 65%of at-risk patients learned the information about stroke warning symptoms from the community health center and 75% of at-risk patients did not know the phone number or hotline (1669) to call for emergencies. Based on the findings, the local health team has to raise awareness about the stroke warning symptoms to the community by focusing on risk groups. They should also include the hotline(1669) to contact during emergencies and priority emergency medical expressway in the hospital.
