Education is an important component of human life. Education can make fundamental changes for people. Giroux offers a progressive educational concept that can be reviewed for relevance to the philosophy of Islamic education. This study will examine Henry Giroux's progressive educational thinking perspective on Islamic education philosophy. The approach used in this research is philosophical. The philosophical approach is to examine thinking from the ideal side. The data used is secondary data and will be analyzed qualitatively, namely the process of organizing, sorting, and presenting data narratively-descriptively. The results of this study show that education is conceptualized to bring fundamental changes to humans. Gerok criticized market-driven education reform as cultural cruelty and instrumental rationality produced by neo-liberal policies in society. Education plays a role to change society towards an equal and equitable state. Education is an aspect of Islamic teachings that combines physical aspects and psychic aspects. Giroux's thinking is relevant which places educational problems in the school aspect as a place to educate, teachers as educators, and curriculum as the main products of education. In line with Giroux's analysis, the problems of Islamic education are seen in the pattern of education that is memorization, repetition, and commentary on the product of classical thought. There needs to be a new paradigm of Islamic education development including considering Giroux's thinking.
