Author: DR.APARNA BAGUL, DR.REKHA PARMAR, VD.ARUN VAIDYA, DR.KRISHNA RATHOD
Abstract: Introduction: In the Yoga sciences, shat kriyas, or six cleansing processes, are specified to purify different body systems. One of the six cleansing techniques or shat-karmas that make up the most important component of Hatha yoga is Tatak. Tratak is a meditation technique in which, through an intentional yet relaxed look, the eyes and therefore the mind are cantered. By practicing Tratak, Shambhavi Sidhi can be done very easily and all eye diseases can be destroyed and divine vision granted. Material and Methods: An effort is being made to study papers highlighting the therapeutic effects of Tratak. They searched from databases such as Pub Med, Scopus and Ayush Portal. We used keywords like Tratak, ocular disease, focus and mental health to scan for them. Evidence from this study indicates that Tratak provides several advantages not only in eye disorders but also in psychological variables. Discussion: The quest yielded 2100 references in total. The analysis included scientific articles, case studies showing the effects of Tratak. In both physiological and clinical settings, the preponderance of literature points to useful results of the tratak. In healthy individuals, Tratak has beneficial effects on neuro-cognitive, psychophysiological, ocular, biochemical and metabolic functions. They have also been helpful in treating different health conditions. The role of tratak in ocular disorders such as myopia, glaucoma, etc. and in improving vision is supported by most studies. In order to enhance the presence of mind, intellect and attention, Tratak also has an important function. Conclusion: Overall, Yoga-based Tratak, ocular exercise as an add-on, or alternative treatment, is a reasonably effective non-pharmacological intervention. However, randomised control trials must be conducted in order to substantiate the therapeutic efficacy of this quick, cost-effective, non-pharmacological mode of treatment. Given the positive effects of tratak, more large-scale studies with robust designs are required to understand the pathways associated with tratak.
Keyword: Tratak, shatkarma, eye conditions, attention, cognitive neuroscience, yoga.
