Effect of empowerment of cadres for dental and oral health before and during pregnancy (Study at Gunung Anyar Sub-district Surabaya, Indonesia in 2020)

Abstract:

Introduction: Pregnant women are a group that needs special attention related to oral health and the health of their future babies as they are very susceptible to gingival disease and periodontal disease which are the results of neglecting oral hygiene habits. Methods: The sample used in the study of cadres in Gunung Anyar Surabaya was 30 treatment groups and 30 control groups. This type of research is analytical research with pre-posttest design Quasi Experiment Non-Equivalent Control Group is the research design. The data analysis process used the Wilcoxon statistical tests. Results and Discussion: The results of the study using the cadre’s handbooks were able to improve the knowledge, the skills to brush teeth properly, and the skills to conduct of efforts on dental and oral health. There is a significant difference in treatment group before and after training with handbook. The control group shows no differences. Conclusion: dental health cadres experienced an increase of knowledge, skills of brushing their teeth properly and the education capabilities.
