The Student Perceptions on The Online English Teaching in Pandemic Era: Voice from UNISNU Jepara, Indonesia

Author: , , DWI ERLIN EFFENDI
Abstract: Online learning models can go through several approaches such as the media used, the type of communication, and student learning styles. This research aims to explore the students' activities and perceptions on online teaching English subject. It focused on the characteristics of the respondents, the learning media, and the student learning styles. The research was conducted at a private university of UNISNU Central Java Indonesia. The population was 206 students of Faculty of Economy and Business (FEB) who enrolled in the English II class with purposive sampling techniques. The samples are 166 students who filled out the questionnaire via Google Form. The research results showed that the students are more comfortable using the WA Group and e-learning to carry out online learning for being used to applying the online lectures. The results show that the respondents prefer to present the material in the form of video or live video. The classroom activities are doing assignments in the form of making videos and presentations in class, as well as uploading the recorded presentation on university online system. The students’ response to online lectures is still lacking. However, the online learning continue running even with several shortcomings. The implementation of this online learning must also be monitored by the university leadership so that it can be evaluated regularly.
