Efficacy Of Shockwave Therapy Versus Intra-Articular Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection In Management Of Knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Abstract: Background: Osteoarthritis is one of disabling diseases which developed when disruption in normal synovial joint structures or it functions. Aim: to compare between the efficacy of shockwave versus platelet rich plasma injection on cases have knee osteoarthritis. Methods: Forty-five (male and female) Patients ranged in age from 40 to 65years divided to 3 groups, consists of 15 cases in each group. Group (A) receive radial shock wave therapy one session per week for total four session plus conventional physical therapy program. Group (B) received intra- articular platelet rich plasma injection plus conventional physical therapy program. Group (C) received the conventional physical therapy program alone they were evaluated pre and post treatment for knee pain severity by the visual analogue scale and functional disability using WOMAC scale and ROM using laser goniometer. Results: There were no significant difference between shock wave therapy and PRP injections. Both were effective than control group in relieving pain and functional disability and range of motion. Conclusion: either shock wave therapy or Platelet rich plasma were effective in relieved knee pains. Function disabilities. With no difference between them as regard to their effectiveness in management of the O.A.
