Analytical determination of triphala and its dosage forms i.e. triphala kwatha and triphala masi an ayurvedic dosage forms.

Author: DR.GRIVA BHATT, MS. BHUMI KANTARIYA, DR.MEHUL MEHTA
Abstract: Triphala is a combination of the dried fruits of three plants Terminalia chebula, Teriminalia belerica and Phyllanthus embelica. Triphala is used to prepare other dosage forms. Dosage form of Triphala like Triphala Kwatha is practised commonly but Triphala Masi practiced very less which is less explored. The present study was planned to make an attempt to assessment the pharmaceutical analysis of Triphala, Triphala Kwatha and Triphala Masi and compare it. The Triphala Masi was prepared by heating at 450 °C for 150 min in close container by electric muffle furnace. The physical values like total ash, acid insoluble ash, water-soluble ash, loss on drying, pH value, HPTLC were determined for Triphala Yavkuta, Triphala Kwatha and Triphala Masi. Elemental analysis of Triphala Masi was carried out. HPTLC profile shows similar Rf values between Triphala, and Triphala masi which indicate the presence of some similar chemical groups.
