Modernization of Teaching Methods in Higher Education Taking into Account the Distinctive Features of Modern Students as Representatives of the “Digital Generation”

Abstract: The article addresses issues and problems of the modern education caused by information and technological challenges and the formation of the information-oriented society. The particular emphasis has been on the analysis of the generation whose active socialization is taking place in the context of the widespread occurrence of information and communication technologies, which is characterized as a “digital natives” by different authors. The article aims to determine the effectiveness of the application of advanced methods of the educational process, taking into account the characteristics of modern students as the main subjects of the educational environment, directly related to the digital generation. The study highlights the conclusions on how the educational process should be changed to be adequate for the “digital generation”, including learning methodology, pedagogical technologies, modern technical means of education, training organization, and competence of teachers, have been made. Practical recommendations regarding learning methods in higher education, which are adequate for the “digital generation”, have been given. Such approaches to education as the development of students’ skills to structure learning material and problem-based learning have been considered. Both general (comparative analysis, sociological survey, mathematical modeling) and specialized (e-learning, active pedagogical) scientific methods are used in the article as the main methods of the research. To evaluate the results of subjective assessment of the education activities efficiency the method of one-way analysis of variance is used.
