Development and evaluation of bio nanocomposite films for antifungal activity

Author: PRASAD VINAY RAO, MEENAKSHI S, AFRASIM MOIN, NANHI NANDINI, AMIT B PATIL, SIDDARAMAIAH, NITHIN K S, D V GOWDA
Abstract: Aim: The aim of the present study was to develop Bio Nano composite films (BNCFs) by green process for antifungal activity. Methods: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) coated with Badam gum (BG) and clove extract (CE) by green process and fabricated into poly- lactic acid (PLA) based antifungal Bio Nano composite films (BNCFs) by solvent casting method. Results: Green synthesis was used to coat the silver nanoparticles with badam-gum and clove extract fabricated into Bio-Nano composite films by using poly- lactic acid. Peak observed at 340nm by UV-visible spectroscopy indicates the presence of silver nanoparticles. X-Ray Diffraction was used to study the crystallinity of nanoparticles and Scanning Electron Microscope/ Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy analysis was performed to support the presence of silver nanoparticles on badam gum. The films were prepared and impregnated with badam gum as 7% and 10% in which 10% showed wider zone of inhibition of 16mm diameter resulting better inhibitory effect against Candida albicans exhibiting anti-fungal activity of badam gum with silver nanoparticles/Poly lactic acid bio nanocomposite films. In conclusion, prepared bio nanocomposite films exhibit significant antifungal properties.
Keyword: Bio Nano composite films, silver nanoparticles, Candida albicans, anti-fungal activity, badam gum, poly lactic acid.
