AIM: To analyse the phytochemical and antioxidant activity of leaf extract of mangifera Indica
MATERIALS AND METHOD: The leaf extract of magifera indica was collected and the phytochemical and antioxidant activity was analysed using DPPH Radical scavenging test and Hydrogen Peroxide Scavenging Activity.
RESULT: The DPPH radical scavenging activity of ascorbic acid and extract increased in a dose-dependent manner. At a concentration of 100ug/ml both ethanolic extract and standard Ascorbic acid showed 82.89 % and 96.20% antioxidant activity respectively by DPPH radicals scavenging assay. And through the phytochemical analysis it shows the presence of alkaloids , terpanoid, flavonoids phlobatannins etc.
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that the leaf extract of mangifera indica has various phytochemicals present in it and has a good antioxidant activity by effectively scavenging various free radicals such as dpph radicals , hydroxyl radicals. Diseases caused due oxidative stress are increasing, and Mangifera indica leaves are a natural source of antioxidant. Hence, from the study, it can be concluded that Mangifera indica leaves can be considered as a food supplement.
