P drug concept and rational prescription is useful and important part in undergraduate pharmacology practical curriculum. Awareness and knowledge about P drug concept and rational use of medicine among medical students includes selection of right drug for the right disease at affordable cost. We have conducted a questionnaire based online study to assess the awareness and knowledge about P drug concept and rational use of medicine among third year medical students in Dept. of Pharmacology, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur during corona pandemic. We assess the awareness and knowledge about P drug and rational use of medicine (RUM) at their level by a self-designed structured questionnaire. The data obtained was tabulated, analyzed and the results calculated in percentages. In our study, 90% or above students have given the answer “yes” i.e. they have knowledge about criteria of drug selection, effective group and need of therapeutic objective. 80% students know that detail history and making differential diagnosis is also important in P drug selection. Majority of student selected correct effective group/ P drug for common ailments. We have concluded that Students should be motivated towards the concept of P drug through effective lectures and training in practical classes and also need of practice again in final year of MBBS course so that they can prescribe rationally in future.
