Construction and Validation of Ayurveda Health Assessment Questionnaire (AHAQ) Based on Characteristics of Health (Arogya Linga) Mentioned by Acharya Kashyapa

Abstract: Background: According to WHO health is defined as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The characteristics of health (Arogya linga) by Acharya Kashyapa explains all the physical, mental and social well being criteria. The contemporary science has Standardized Health assessment questionnaire which are based on the health parameters told by WHO. Many references for the features of healthy person are mentioned in Ayurveda but no Standardized Questionnaire for Health assessment has been worked out so far. Objective: of this study is to develop and standardize a tool for the assessment of health of both health and sick individuals by ayurvedic parameters which will help in assessing the health of healthy and improvement of same in a patient. Material and method: A questionnaire was developed on the basis of these characteristics of health (Arogya linga) and was distributed to 300 participants in total who are included in study by stratified sampling method. Suitable statistical methods were used for analysis. Results: After Data analysis of 300 participants, the results of Cronbach’s Alpha for Physical, Mental and Social Domain were 0.815, 0.723, 0.847 respectively. Overall Cronbach’s Alpha reliability statistics was found to be 0.855. The KMO and Bartlett's Test Value were 0.781, 0.764, 0.860 denoting the suitable structure of questionnaire. Conclusion: the questionnaire can be used for the purpose of health assessment by ayurvedic paramaters as the statistical tests applied denotes complete adequacy.
