Etlingera rubroloba (Blume) AD Poulsen is a plant traditionally used in Southeast Sulawesi to maintain their health and relieve joint pain. There is no report of this species so far to confirm its activities and compounds responsible for such activities, therefore study of this species was undertaken. E. rubroloba was tested for DPPH radical scavenging and Xanthine Oxidase Inhibitory Activity. This research was initiated by maceration followed by liquid vacuum column chromatography and radial chromatography for isolating compounds. The structure of obtained compound was identified using a spectroscopic technique (13C & 1H-NMR, IR, MS) and comparison with published data as bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). The IC50 value of the DEHP as antiradical DPPH was 665.697 µg/mL, methanol extract 42.334 µg/mL, and ascorbic acid (positive control) as 21.250 µg/mL. Furthermore, the percentage value of Xanthine Oxidase (XO) inhibition of DEHP (320 µg / mL) was 76.44%, 92.54% methanol extract, and 96.39% Allopurinol. As the XO value of DEHP is lower than that of the methanol extract, it indicates that other active compounds are present in the methanol extract.
