Author: DR.DANIEL P.JHON, DR.JABBAR DESAI, DR.AMIT PORWAL, DR.MRS.KAPALE R.J, DR.U.T.MANE
Abstract: This study included 50 cases and 50 controls. Maximum cases were in age group of 29-48 yrs i.e. 20 cases (40%). The mean age of cases was 47.18 ±. 17.80 yrs. The mean age of controls was 50.66 ± 17.73 yrs. Out of 50 37 (74%) were female and 32 (64%) were controls., 38 (76%) cases had moderate anemia. The mean hemoglobin levels in cases was 6.55 ± 1.62 and that in control group was 12.41 ± 1.39. The mean PCV levels in cases was 22.06 ± 5.31 and that in control group was 37.10 ± 4.07. The mean MCH levels in cases was 20.57 ± 4.74 and that in control group was 28.72 ± 1.82. The mean Serum Iron levels in cases was 54.14 ± 26.79 and in control group was 97.18 ± 17.87. The mean Serum TIBC levels in cases was 352 ± 66.26 and in control group was 310 ± 46.89. The mean Serum Ferritin levels in cases was 4.80 ± 1.27 and in control group was 20.19 ± 2.61. The mean FBSL levels in cases was 90.30 ± 8.62 and in control group was 88.50 ± 8.18. The mean PPBSL levels in cases was 112.72 ± 14.81 and in control group was 110.50 ± 13.67.The mean HbA1c levels in cases was 6.95 ± 0.47 and in control group was 5.44 ± 0.37. Conclusion- HbA1c is not affected by the blood sugar levels alone, It is hence prudent to rule out IDA before making a therapeutic decision, based on the HbA1c levels.
