Cinema represents the political, social, cultural and economic ideology of a society. The representation is always problematic as it sometimes 'mis ‘represent or not represent certain areas/class/gender in the respective society underlying certain covert agendas of the filmmakers and the related sources. Women are marginalized on the basis of the gender as they are one of the weakest sections of the society. The representation of the weakest and the subjugated is always problematic. Cinema as part of the mainstream society often misrepresent these sections of the society. Women being the vulnerable always succumb to objectification and stereotyping. The so long debates and discourses among the feminist film theorists on these issues require immediate attention to a least discussed area of the representation of ‘disabled women’ in cinema. The representation (misrepresentation) of the women and disables/differently abled is such an instance to ponder upon and they were always on the verge of misunderstandings and misrepresentation both in society and its manifestations. Even in this twenty first century, disability is a major social issue because of the absence of proper understanding of the disability. But, the portrayal of the disabled can be ruled by gender disparities. As there are more societal prejudices and social norms attached to feminity, inclusion becomes a more complicated subject for women with medical defined disability. The paper analyses the various aspects of the representation of women with medical defined disability in Malayalam cinema. This study includes all the Malayalam movies released which has a disabled female protagonist, till 2017.
