Background:
A guidance has been endorsed by the American College of Radiology from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the rescheduling of the outpatient visits that are non-urgent. This guidance has had the most significant impact on the screening services such as mammography and lung cancer screening; however, the effects of this guidance were felt all through the specialty, including the field of interventional radiology procedures.
Objective:
The study aimed to provide a statistical analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic effect on interventional radiology practices.
Results:
Multiple studies were reviewed for a statistical analysis of the topic. It is concluded that even though the use of other radiological imaging methods reduced, the use of fluoroscopic guidance increased. It was also observed that the use of X-Ray imaging increased during the pandemic as compared to other radiological techniques.
Conclusion:
Interventional radiology and imaging were immensely impacted due to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. The suspension of outpatient services and the elective procedures led to a drastic reduction in the imaging. This paper reviewed the impact of COVID-19 in regards to interventional radiology practices.
