Author: RACHEL PAUL, RAGHU SANDHYA, DEEPA GURUNATHAN
Abstract: Ceramic inlay / composite inlays are becoming a very popular choice due its aesthetic property. It blends in with the teeth and also provides the same strength as compared to metal inlay inlays and LCRs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of patients undergoing tooth coloured class 2 inlay restorations attending a dental college. This study was conducted by reviewing the patient records of 1681 datas from a time period of June 2019 to March 2020. The data collected was tabulated and statistical analysis was done. The number of class 2 ceramic inlays were lesser in number compared to the other class 2 restorations including amalgam, direct composite and metal inlay (30 out of 1681 class 2 restorations). Tooth number 26 was more often treated with tooth coloured class 2 inlay (43.33%). The gender predilection inclined more towards males compared to females (73.33%). DO type of restoration had an increased frequency than MO type of restoration. (53.33%). Within the limitations of the present institutional based study, patient record reveals 1.78% of the class 2 caries were restored with tooth colored class 2 inlay restorations. Male patients preferred tooth coloured class 2 inlay compared to female patients. Patients of the age group between 18-30yrs more often opted for this restoration.
