Knowledge And Awareness About Synthetic Dietary Supplements Among Public - Survey

Abstract: The aim of the current study is to analyse the knowledge and awareness about Synthetic dietary supplements among the populace. Synthetic dietary supplements are used to maintain overall health and proper nutritional level of the body. These supplements are available in various forms like capsules, pills, tablets, tonic and so on. Synthetic dietary supplements can be taken either under the prescription of a health care professional or as self - medication, since chances of abusing supplements are less. Supplements play an important role in athletes thereby improving their performance in sports. Some dietary supplements are helpful in treatment of cancer and heart diseases. Trace elements like calcium and magnesium helps in maintaining heart health, colon health and treats muscle related issues. Excess of dosage of supplements may cause birth defects, neuronal disturbances and gastrointestinal reactions like nausea, vomiting, indigestion and diarrhoea. A survey is conducted via an online portal and the sample population is estimated to be 100. 20 questions were framed based on the uses and adverse effects of various synthetic dietary supplements and the responses are represented in bar graphs. Statistical analysis is made by using SPSS software. The current study stated that synthetic dietary supplements are used to improve the overall health and helps in overcoming nutritional deficiencies. It can also be used as a treatment for cancer and heart diseases. Age related cognitive diseases can be treated through these supplements. The sample population is completely aware about the uses and side effects of synthetic dietary supplements.
