Abstract:

Three-dimensional printing techniques are increasingly used for the production of medical devices due to their ability to print specified designs with high dimensional accuracy. Indeed, the main merit in the widespread use of 3D printing methods in medicine is related to the ability of this method to prepare devices suitable for the patient, due to the limitations of traditional production methods, such as economic inefficiency and multi-stage processing for complex geometric shapes. This review manuscript is intended to provide a summary of the various concepts and technologies of three-dimensional printing used in the field of medicine. Biomaterials and bioprinting are defined. Finally, the pharmaceutical possibilities of three-dimensional printing are discussed.
