The anterior nasal aperture is pyriform or pear shape, hence it is called pyriform aperture. The nasal bone of the body parts of anterior nasal aperture gives attachment to the nasal cartilage, so this aperture gives a passage for air to enter during respiration. The aim of the present study was to analyse the anterior nasal aperture and posterior nasal aperture in South Indian dry skulls. The digital vernier caliper is used for the measurement of anterior and posterior nasal aperture of South Indian dry skulls. For this study 30 South Indian dry skulls are utilized from the department of anatomy of Saveetha Dental college and Hospitals. The present study has observed that the mean distance between nasal bone to anterior spine was 33.7999, mean distance of upper diameter of anterior nasal aperture was 13.3076, mean distance of middle diameter of anterior nasal aperture was 23.601, mean distance of lower diameter of anterior nasal aperture was 13.3076, length of posterior nasal aperture in right side was 22.25 and left side was 22.322 and the width of the posterior nasal aperture in right the side was 12.73 and the left was 12.772. The present study thus concludes that the prior knowledge of this morphometric analysis of anterior nasal aperture and posterior nasal aperture is useful for rhinoplasty surgeries and anthropometric studies.
