Author: HELEN RESHMA, M.JEEVITHA, S.PREETHA
Abstract: Dehydration is significant loss of body fluid that impairs homeostasis. Loss of about ten percent of total body water can cause physical and mental deterioration. Death occurs at a rate of loss of body water between fifteen and twenty-five percent. The aim is to assess knowledge and awareness of dehydration among young adults. Self-structured questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was designed based on dehydration. The questionnaire was distributed online in a survey planet application among randomly selected 100 participants who were young adults. The data was collected and statistically analysed. In the present study, the majority of the participants are aware of dehydration. The results concluded that almost 78% of participants are aware of causes and effects of dehydration and 22% of them are unaware of its causes and effects and have less knowledge on dehydration. The present study indicated that most of the participants have very good knowledge on dehydration. The participants exhibited good knowledge of dehydration definition, prevention, and water intake recommendation. The participants also exhibited good knowledge of the common symptoms, also knowledge was lacking for uncommon symptoms.
