Gaining good endodontic access is one of the most preliminary procedures for a successful endodontic treatment. This becomes especially difficult to achieve in calcified root canals and can lead to technical failures such as substantial loss of tooth structure that can weaken the tooth considerably, or lead to perforations. Guided Endodontics is a novel guided approach for the preparation of endodontic access cavities that was introduced to overcome these complications. This technique is not only used for calcified canals, but is now being expanded for various procedures in endodontics. It may help to easily and precisely access specific areas in the root, which are hampered due to resorptions, perforations or fractured endodontic instruments with minimal invasion. The aim of this paper was to review the literature and present the applications, technique, advantages and disadvantages of the novel ‘Guided Endodontics’ procedure.
