Abstract: Dentists of today are finding that more and more people who consult them are no longer really patients. They are individuals who desire perfectly aligned, sparkling white teeth, and who may even ask for tooth jewellery. These cosmetic procedures have to be accomplished by professionals with professional products. Hence the current study was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice regarding tooth jewellery among dental professionals in Chennai, India. A total sample of 192 participants including Interns, Post Graduates and Staffs of dental colleges were included in the study. This cross sectional study was conducted in Chennai by simple random sampling in August and September 2018. A pre-tested structured questionnaire with 15 questions were distributed to assess the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of participants regarding tooth jewellery. The statistics were computed with the SPSS version 22 software. Chi square test was used for assessment. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. 97.1% MDS and 84.8% BDS were aware of the procedure of tooth jewellery. However, 87(82.1%) MDS were not ready to accept it as a routine procedure when compared to undergraduates whose response was found to be 40(46.6%). Most of the MDS were not ready to learn it as a separate course. According to the study, there is a fair knowledge of tooth jewellery among the dental professionals. More dentists think of it as a trending procedure and are interested in learning more about it. As said earlier tooth jewellery should be incorporated in the curriculum of dentistry to allow the budding dentists to evolve in tooth jewellery. In this way when they graduate, they will be having an extensive knowledge and practice in tooth jewellery.
