Knowledge, Attitude And Practice Among Dentists Regarding The Custom Made Cast Post And Core

Author: A AHAMED, MANISH RANJAN
Abstract: Grossly decayed endodontically treated teeth with less coronal tooth structure remaining either due to an extensive access cavity preparation or large pre-existing restoration often poses a challenge while choosing an appropriate post-endodontic restorative material. Endodontically treated teeth with high occlusal loading, crack lines, mesial and distal caries, definitely require posts to improve the fracture resistance of the tooth and for better retention of core. A structured, self administrable questionnaire consisting of ten multiple-choice questions (MCQs) encompassing major aspects of custom cast post and core was conducted among dental practitioners through an online survey. The responses were tabulated and statistically analyzed most of the dentists were aware of the post and core systems. Prefabricated posts were most preferred over custom cast posts in this survey. However, there is a need for an update regarding the correct application of various types of cast post based on the clinical situation for better treatment outcome.
