Model surgery is one of the most important steps in the preoperative workout for orthognathic surgery. In complex two-jaw surgery cases, manual model surgery requires many laboratory based steps that are time-consuming and may contain potential errors. T scan eliminates the problems of two dimensional (2D) treatment planning by recording the data in a reproducible dental wafers occlusal systems in a three dimensional (3D) form. These techniques, however, have lacked proof regarding accuracy in maxillary positioning resulting in a drawback of routine use of T-scan and planning in orthognathic surgery. This review aims to bridge the gap by highlighting the usefulness of T-scans in orthognathic surgery for routine practice, thereby enabling accurate treatment planning for orthognathic surgery.
