Electrosurgery is a widely used surgical technology that is used to cut through tissue and cauterize that tissue with a high frequency electric current. It produces electricity in order to achieve resection, incision, haemostasis, and devitalisation of target tissues. As intraoral haemorrhage is a normal occurrence in dentistry, therefore rapid haemostasis may be needed. Use of electrosurgery in dentistry is an ideal choice as it provides both cutting and coagulation. This is because tissue coagulation and desiccation without cutting can be done at lower current densities. As minimally invasive surgery and microvascular surgery demand has been increased in dentistry, thus electrosurgery is seen as a great option. This article briefly explains the use of electrosurgery in dental practices.
