Abstract:

Provisional restorations are designed in order to protect oral structures and promote function and esthetics for a limited period of time, after which they are to be replaced by a de?nite prosthesis. They play a particular role in diagnostic procedures and continued evaluation of the treatment plan, as they should resemble the form and function of the de?nite rehabilitation that they precede. Therefore, interim treatment should satisfy the criteria of marginal adaptation, strength, and longevity. In complicated treatment plans that intend to last for extended periods of time, the function of provisional prostheses involves the possibility of relining, modi?cation, or repair. These adjustments raise considerations regarding the strength of the resultant bond. Modified self cure resin was done by chopping the Glass fibres in small pieces and mixing it equal proportions with self cure resin that is, 0.1g of glass fibre was added in 1g of self cure resin mix. The control and test group mixtures were poured into the putty mold and was allowed to set. Later on, the samples were taken out of the mould and had undergone two tests namely, colour stability test using VITATEST machine and compressive strength test at 2300N. In colour stability test, the average delta E value of control group and test group is 12.3 and 13.8 respectively. From the results of the compressive strength test, mean compressive strength at 2500N of test group and control group is 0.35mm and 0.7mm respectively. The results show that there is no colour variation as delta E of 1 or less than 1 between two colours is considered as an acceptable match and modified resin is less displaced when compared to conventional resin. This study indicates, clinically self cure methacrylate resin to function as long term provisional restorations in fixed prosthesis glass fibers can be incorporated to enhance its strength.
