Knowledge And Awareness On Personalised Medicine Among Dental Students

Abstract: Personalized medicine is the field that utilises patient’s genetic and environmental data in order to deliver optimal healthcare, based on the diagnosis and management for individual patient's need .Since it is a rapidly evolving area and is currently incorporated in several health care systems, this study was conducted to assess the knowledge and awareness about Personalized Medicine among Dental students.Self-structured questionnaire consisting of 15 close-ended questions was circulated through online in survey planet application among randomly selected 100 participants in Saveetha Dental College, Chennai. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis.This survey shows that 64.5% of dental students have knowledge and awareness about Personalised Medicine and 35.5% of the students responded in a negative way.Dental Students have the enough level of knowledge and awareness towards Personalised Medicine especially in the field of dentistry which is related to oral health and it can be used to cure oral related pathological problems and diseases. The present study indicated that most of the students are aware of Personalised Medicine . The findings from this survey imply that proper training, continuing education programs, and short-term courses about Personalised Medicine are required to motivate the dental students to apply it clinically to see the good result in modern medicine. There is a need to conduct more surveys to assess the level of awareness among health professionals and the general population regarding Personalised Medicine.
