Knowledge, Awareness and attitude of clinicians on incidence of undercuts in edentulous patients - a survey

Author: SUHAS MANOHARAN, SURESH V
Abstract: Residual alveolar ridge may appear in various forms and shapes.Resorption of these ridges alter their shape and leads to undercuts. Fabrication of complete denture becomes a challenge in cases of severe undercuts.Till date there are no existing surveys on clinician awareness about undercuts in edentulous arches. A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted among the clinicians which included both general practitioners and experts .The sample size of 200 clinicians were selected. A close ended questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge and awareness of clinicians regarding undercuts in edentuous arches. A survey software was used to reduce sampling bias.Repeated answers or questioning were avoided. Chi-square tests are applied to find the association between the parameters and the level of significance.Awareness and knowledge regarding this subject is essential to fabricate and deliver a good quality denture to edentulous patients
