Dental caries is the predominant cause of tooth loss in children and young adults. Early detection can aid the clinician to anticipate oral health problems in the susceptible children and initiate preventive oral health measures at a very young age. The aim of the study is to analyse the association of fluctuating asymmetry of dermatoglyphics in oral cavity risk. This study was conducted in a private dental college and hospitals among 10 participants with oral cavity and Normal participants. The outcome variable used is fluctuating asymmetry of finger ridge count. The fingerprints were recorded using digital cameras and analysed using the SPSS tool. The results suggest significant difference between groups for FA of Index, middle and ring finger with p value <0.05. Fluctuating asymmetry of Finger ridge count of Index finger between the groups show the majority of participants in the study group have FA of 5 counts, whereas as in the normal group majority of participants have FA of 2 counts. The independent t test shows p value P value-0.004 (<0.05). The FA of thumb and little finger show no significant difference between groups. It can be concluded that FA of dermatoglyphics is associated with dental caries risk.
