The foramen tympanum also known as foramen of huschke is an anatomical variation in the external acoustic meatus at the tympanic plate of the temporal bone where a defective bone connects the external acoustic meatus to the temporomandibular joint. The present study aims to find the existence of the foramen of huschke in around 67 dry human South Indian skulls and 10 individual temporal bones. Among 67 dry skulls, 3 skulls were found to have the existence of foramen of Huschke and were observed to be only on the left side . 10 individual temporal bones were examined out of which 3 left side bones were found to have the foramen and right side bones does not show any existence of foramen. From the results obtained, we found only 4.48 % of human skulls to have the presence of foramen of huschke and was variable in size. The results of the study suggests the existence of foramen under study to be prevalent in the left side of the skull bone. The presence of foramen can have its clinical implications in the external ear and temporomandibular joint and can also act as a source for spread of infection from external auditory meatus.
