Author: SRIJAN SUNAR, NIVETHIGAA.B
Abstract: The survey aimed to assess the knowledge attitude and perception of the patient towards orthodontic treatment. Malocclusion is known to contribute overall health status, as well as affecting an individual's psychosocial health. Improvement in dental and facial aesthetics has always been an important goal of orthodontic treatment. This not only enhances the general well being of the patients but is also helpful in improving self-confidence and social success. Apart from this, orthodontic treatment also helps resolve a number of problems caused by protruding, irregular or maloccluded teeth such as difficulties in jaw movements, greater susceptibility to trauma, periodontal disease or tooth decay, etc. A cross sectional questionnaire study was conducted online survey among the dental professionals. The online survey is timesaving and a majority of the population can be covered. There were one hundred participants involved in this online survey. The simple random sampling was done as a sampling method. The questionnaire consisting of seventeen questions were posted for an online survey using google form. The validity of the questionnaire was cross verified by experts. According to the survey most of the people have been to the dentist before 70% and 30% have not been to the dentist yet. According to this survey only 49% of the people are aware of mal position and the rest 51% are unaware of mal position. In this survey 49% of the individuals are aware of orthodontic treatment. In this survey most of the individuals are not aware of invisible braces 57%. Understanding of different factors associated with adult orthodontic treatment allows better assessment of the requirements and priorities of adults during the treatment. Better function, ability to clean the teeth, esthetics are all enhanced after orthodontic treatment. It is important to educate the patient regarding benefits of aligning the teeth. This study shows the lack of awareness and need for educating the population regarding malocclusion.
