The aim of the present study was to evaluate the status of FSH in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) individuals. 60 subjects were selected from the outpatient department of a private hospital in Chennai. The study and control group had 30 patients each. Informed consent was obtained from each patient after proper counselling before starting the study. Fasting blood sample was taken on the 3rd day of a normal or induced menstrual cycle. Follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) was estimated by ELISA method Using ROBONIK ELISA reader The mean value of BMI of normal healthy individuals was 21.75±2.88 and in PCOS patient was found to be 31.76 ± 6.95.The mean value of FSH in blood of normal healthy individuals was 5.32 ± 2.49 and in PCOS patient was found to be 20.89 ±12.57. In PCOS individuals, the gonadotropin ovarian axis is disturbed which is reflected by high FSH value. This hormonal imbalance leads to obesity, infertility, acne and hirsutism. Lifestyle alteration can help in suppressing the disease to a great extent. However, regular exercise is recommended to all obese women with PCOS. The type and frequency of exercise is dependent upon the personal health conditions and limitations of every woman.
