Association of Height and Foot Length Measurement in Normal Population - An Anthropometric Study

Author: ABINAYA.S , LAVANYA PRATHAP, PREETHA S
Abstract: Estimating living stature can help to identify an unknown individual because there is a close relationship between the body parts dimensions and height of an individual. The aim of the present study is to analyze the relation between height and foot length of healthy individuals. A total of 100 individuals between ages of 18 -20 years which include 50 males and 50 females who were healthy and without deformities were used to measure their foot length by inch tapes and height using stadiometer, The correlation between the variables are analyzed using the SPSS tool. The correlation between foot length and height was analyzed using correlation coefficient suggesting negligible correlation r <0.30. The association between the right and left foot length was suggested to have no significant difference with p value - 0.56(p >0.05) between bilateral foot measurements. From the obtained results it can be concluded that there was only negligible correlation between the test variables. The association of the right and left foot was also found to have no significant difference between genders. Future studies should be conducted with large sample size and a wide range of age group to have precise results in this context.
