The carotid canal is located near the apex of the petrous part of the temporal bone. It transmits the internal carotid artery, sympathetic nerve plexus, internal carotid venous plexus. It is considered to be an important anatomical landmark for neurosurgeons during surgeries. The study used about 30 South Indian dry human skulls of unknown sex. The morphometric variables were measured using a Vernier caliper. The collected data was statistically analyzed using SPSS version 20. From the obtained results, the majority of the shape of the carotid canal was 48.33% oval shaped, Majority of the right Carotid Canal ranged between 5.93 mm and 6.40 mm and the majority of the left Carotid Canal. ranged between 5.89 mm and 6.78 mm. The distance between majority of the C.C. and the margin of the foramen magnum, the occipital condyle and the apex of mastoid process were 26.97 mm, 19.70 mm and 28.67 mm respectively with no significant difference between the left and right carotid canals. This study concluded that the morphologic and morphometric data on the carotid canal showed no significant difference between the right and left sides of the skull.
