Introduction: The head and neck is the area where structures are arranged complexes. In the occipital region the EOP is one of the anatomical landmarks to perform various surgical procedures and because as mentioned earlier neck has many anatomical structures arranged complex. So, the EOP may serve as a best landmark to avoid vessels and nerve injuries during surgical procedures. The present study has aimed to conduct a morphometric study to analyse the important anatomical landmarks in the skull in relation to EOP.
Material and Methods: The present study has utilized 50 south Indian human dry skulls from the Department of Anatomy at Saveetha Dental college and Hospitals. The digital vernier caliper has used for to measure the distance between mastoid foramen, mastoid notch, mastoid groove, mastoid process in relation to EOP
Results: The results of the morphometric analyses were tabulated and represented as graphs.
Conclusion: The present study thus concluded that the EOP and its related anatomical landmarks are surgically very important for locating nerves, vessels, cisterns at the back of the head for various clinical and surgical procedures.
