Abstract:

The medicinal plants are an important source of medicines and play a key role in world health. Almost all cultures from ancient times to today have used plants as medicine. Many modern drugs have been isolated from natural sources. Over 3000 plants are legally registered by India for its medicinal value. Over 6000 plants were commonly reported for traditional, folk, and natural remedies in India. Cassia species are widely distributed in India and Srilanka. This is a perennial tree and it grows in rough land area. Many essential phytoconstituents like phenolic compounds, flavonoids, anthraquinone glycosides, etc. were isolated from Cassia species. Traditionally, Cassia species are used for its laxative, skin disorders, liver diseases, and worm infections. This review mainly focusses on the ethnobotanical, phytochemical, and pharmacological activities of Cassia marginata Roxb.
