Predictive Value of Estimated Serum Uric Acid in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome in AL-Diwaniyah Teaching Hospital

Author: ALAA HADI ALESSAMI, ZAHRAA ADNAN MOHAMMED
Abstract: Background: Hyperuricemia associated with different diseases like systemic hypertension "dyslipidemia" diabetes mellitus “ syndrome X" and chronic kidney diseases , that leading all these to caused ischemic heart disease and contribute to elevated morbidity and mortality. Aim of our study: The study was to asses predictive value of serum Uric acid in patients with ACS. Methods: This is observational study involved 54 patients with acute coronary syndrome admitted to the CCU of AL-Diwanyia Teaching Hospital during period from 1st of April 2020 to the 15 of September 2020, Serum uric acid level was measured on day of admission . Results: Hyperuricemia was observed in 20 patients( 37%) of patients with ACS. 16 Patients with STEMI had hyperuricemia on compared with 4 patients with NSTEMI. S. uric acid concentration noted significantly more among patients that presented with a Killip class (III and IV) 45% , 20% respectively. 13 patients 65% out 20 patients had hyperuricemia and found to be hypertension on admission .three patients who died the S. UA concentration more than 7.0 gm/dL and belonged to "Killip class IV" . Conclusions: Uric acid concentration increased in patients had STEMI and also in patients had acute myocardial infarction and known or present to be hypertension on admission. Hyperuricemia associated with highest Killip class in patients with acute coronary syndrome . S. Uric acid concentration may used as a marker of short-term morbidity and mortality in acute coronary syndrome "and hyperuricemia may indicate poor prognostic outcome.
