The present study aims to evaluate the association between BMI and glucose level and lipid profile among type 2-Diabetes mellitus patients and normal subjects. The study on 100 patients with type 2-diabetes and 100 control cases with the age group of 35-50 years with good glycaemia control was carried out. The average BMI in type 2-diabetics was more than in the control subjects. All the three parameters of glucose study were elevated in the type 2-diabetic subjects than in the control group. The overall result for the lipid parameters were decreased except for HDL values (especially in females in this study). All other parameters were more in case of type 2-diabetics patients than in control subjects irrespective of sex of the subject. This study shows a strong association between type 2-diabetes mellitus and obesity leading to increased BMI, high levels of blood sugar and lipid profile which in turn aggravate the atherogenic process. This process leads to increased morbidity and significant mortality compared to non-diabetes subjects.
