In current drug delivery technology, the Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) is an innovative milestone system that delivers the drug into systemic circulation by avoiding the hurdles related to pure drug characteristics like molecular size, lipophilicity, permeability, through physical or chemical enhancers. At present, more than 100 kinds of medicated transdermal patches are available in the current market worth of 5 Billion USD Sales. Based on the comparative risk study with other conventional formulations, TDDS has very less risk factors and shows better patient compliance. The ongoing patent application and continuous search on TDDS show that there is a phenomenal growth in cosmetic, topical, and Pharmaceutical Industry. This review intends to render rich information on TDDS as a ready reference to the upcoming researchers on TDDS.
