Aim: To investigate the protective effects of O. basilicum extracts onstatin induced hepatotoxicity in male rats.
Material and Methods:Fourty four male rats randomly divided in to 4 equal groups. The group one (control group) :without any treatment. The group two (atorvastatin group): treated with 30 mg/kg/day/orallyatorvastatin for two months . The group three (OcimumBacillum group):Received20 mg/kg/ day via gavageOcimumBacillum extracts. The group four(atorvastatin +OcimumBacillum group): Given with 30 mg/kg/day/orally atorvastatin+ 20 mg/kg/ day via gavageOcimumBacillum extracts along the experiment.
Results: Atrostatin increased serum ALT,ALP,AST activity, total bilirubin concentration, liver tissues MDA level and decreased catalase, glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. However ,this modulation of the biochemical parameters is significantly ameliorated by the given of the ocimumbasilicum.
Conclusions: Protective roles of O.Basilicum against atorvastatin induced hepatotoxicity was reported in male rats.
