Effectiveness of Structured Breast Self-Examination Teaching Programme Using Breast Simulator on Knowledge and Attitude Among Working Women In Selected Companies

Abstract: Background: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. Breast cancer affects the physical, mental and social health in many ways. In early thirties the incidence rates of Breast Self-Examination begins to rise among the age groups of 50-64 years. Aim: To assess the effectiveness of structured breast self-examination teaching programme using breast simulator on knowledge and attitude among working women in selected companies. Objectives: To evaluate the knowledge and attitude of BSE among working women, effectiveness of structured BSE teaching programme using breast simulator on knowledge& attitude among working women and correlate between knowledge and attitude of BSE. Design: The research design adopted in this study was A quasi experimental pre — post-test control group design. Methods: 140 working women for study group (TO) and control group (70) were selected using convenient sampling technique to select the samples after getting consent. Structured questionnaires to assess knowledge and attitude were used. Study group was divided into 14 groups and structured education was given to each group. Followed by 7"' day posttest was conducted for the study group and the control group received routine care. Results: The study result revealed that in the study group 70*/c and 30*/c of the working women in the study group had adequate knowledge and moderate y adequate knowledge. 97.1 */c of the working women had favorable attitude. Conclusion: This study result showed that statistically significant differences found in the score averages of the pre- and post-education knowledge level of the working women.
