The Effect of Home Pharmacy Care Education on the Quality of Life of Diabetic Patients in Community Health Care

Author: PINASTI UTAMI, MT GHOZALI, BANGUNAWATI RAHAJENG, SUNDARI
Abstract: Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of providing home pharmacy care on the quality of life and blood glucose levels in patients with type-II diabetes. Methods: The study employed a quasi-experimental design, by pretest and posttest, with a control group. The provision of home pharmacy care was carried out using leaflet media. The patients’ quality of life was assessed using a Diabetes Quality of Life Clinical Trial Questionnaire (DQLCT), and blood glucose levels were measured every month for 3 measurements. Results: The provision resulted in an improved quality of life in the treatment group from 225.93 ± 23.249 to 236.73 ± 23.80 with a p-value of 0.00 which indicates a significant difference. However, the quality of life between groups did not show a significant difference with a p-value of 0.29. The blood glucose levels in the treatment group decreased from 266.40 ± 90.61 to 259.20 ± 35.37 with a p-value of 0.44 which indicates no significant difference. Also, blood glucose levels between groups did not show a significant difference with a p-value> 0.05. Conclusions: There was an increased quality of life and decreased blood sugar levels in the treatment group, while in the control group, the quality of life decreased but there was no change in blood sugar levels. However, when compared, there was no significant difference in the quality of life and blood sugar levels of both groups.
