Abstract: Background Even after advances in obstetrics and neonatal care, the most frequently neglected outcome measuresare maternal satisfaction towards quality of postnatal care. It needs to be meticulouslyaddressed to improve the efficiency and quality of couplet care during puerperium.Considering the paucity ofstudies addressing the effectiveness of couplet care, a descriptivestudy is obligatory. Objective To assesstheeffectiveness of mother, baby couplet care on women’s satisfaction among postnatal mothers of a tertiary care hospital. Methodology This descriptive cross-sectional study included60 postnatal mothers who received care from nurses in the postnatal ward of a tertiary care hospital.A semi structured, validated, interview-based questionnaire was used to collect information towards couplet care that was implemented in the postnatal ward. Statistical analysis was performed by using R software (Version. 3.6.0). Results Majority of the postnatal motherswere 20-25 years old, primigravida (60%). Most (80%) mothers were moderately satisfied for quicker to identify their baby's early feeding cues, in terms of improved breastfeedingand bonding/attachment to the baby (73%) and with nursing care provided (76%). Overall, majority of the postnatal mothers were moderately satisfied (36%)with the mother baby couplet care.No significant association was observed between postnatal mother’s level of satisfaction and socio-demographic variables (P>0.05). Conclusion Postnatal mothers were moderately satisfied with the couplet care. Postnatal nurses need to changepostnatal care practicesfrom traditional methods to modern couplet care.
