Knowledge, Awareness on Harmful Effects of Smoking Among High School Students - A Survey

Abstract:

Introduction: Smoking is the major public health problem in the world. Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of disease, disability, and death worldwide. The Global Youth Tobacco Survey reported that no difference was observed in cigarette smoking prevalence between boys and girls in 58% of the countries. The main aim of the study is to know and be aware of harmful effects of smoking among high school students. Materials and method: An online survey was conducted with the self structured questionnaire using an online survey platform google forms. The link was shared through social media. A total of 100 responses were received.The results were analyzed by performing the statistical software “SPSS VERSION 20” and the result was represented in the pie chart.Results: The results from the survey were collected and analysed. Around 62% of the respondents are aware of the harmful effects of smoking. Figure 1 showing responses for frequency of chain smokers among the survey population - 8.33% positive responses and 92% negative responses.Conclusion: According to the above survey we conclude that the students know and are aware of harmful effects of smoking.
