Abstract:

Oral hygiene is the act of maintaining one's mouth healthy and clear from illness as well as other problems by regular teeth brushing and dental checkup. Poor dental care leads to gum disease, tooth decay, tooth loss, poor nutrition and sleep problems for children. The aim of the present study is to determine the awareness of the oral hygiene practices among the preschool children. Self administered questionnaire was designed based on the oral hygiene practices among preschool children of Salem. The survey was distributed through the online survey planet link. The study population included the preschool children and their parents. The participants were explained about the purpose of the study in detail. The questions were carefully studied and answers marked by the participants. The data was collected and statistically analysed. 77.2% were aware about the oral hygiene practices. 83.2% brush their teeth daily. 58.4% brush only once a day. The study concluded that awareness on the oral hygiene practices among preschool children was satisfactory.
