Posterior Segmental Osteotomy Of Maxilla using Piezoelectric device- An Alternative for Vertical Maxillary Excess- A Case Report

Author: DR.SUBHASHINI R, DR.ABDUL WAHAB P U
Abstract: Background: Vertical Maxillary Excess following tooth extraction causes insufficient inter-arch space which is difficult to rehabilitate by a simple prosthetic approach. It also needs a proper treatment plan. Among many procedures posterior segmental osteotomy (PSO) is an efficient treatment option which involves surgically repositioned multiple erupted teeth and alveolar bone. It is a treatment method which can improve inter maxillary space significantly and also it preserves the natural teeth. Case Presentation: This Case Report presents a patient who received PSO of Maxilla for placing an implant in the mandibular edentulous space after the reduced vertical dimension is restored. Conclusion: PSO is the treatment of choice for vertical maxillary excess or decreased intermaxillary space when occlusion is compromised.
